Magic Surface Care Tips

Countertops

• Never use an abrasive cleaner on a countertop.

• Laminate surfaces can be permanently damaged by insect repellants containing DEET. Do not place such products on laminate countertops and avoid overspray on these surfaces.

Wood & Cabinets

• Exposure to sunlight can speed the aging of wood. Consider installing curtains, blinds, or tints on window to prevent UV exposure from fading wood’s natural or stained color.

• Avoid putting newspapers and magazines directly on wood surfaces, ink can bleed into wood.

• After cooking and preparing meals in the kitchen, it is a good idea to wipe down cabinets with a soft cloth. Excess humidity in the kitchen may dull the wood, so removing excess surface moisture will help protect the finish.

Stainless Steel

• Water with mineral deposits (hard water) can cause staining and water spots to form on stainless steel. It is a good idea to towel dry surfaces after contact.

• Ice and water residue from the refrigerator dispenser may cause spotting. It is a good idea to immediately wipe away water droplets with a soft, clean cloth to minimize spotting.

• Most stainless steel surfaces in the home are brushed stainless steel. In order to properly clean these surfaces and properly apply products always go with the “grain” of the brushing pattern.

Granite & Marble

• Granite is a very hard material and easier to maintain than marble, yet it is still porous and will stain. No matter what type of stone you own, prompt clean up of any spills will help prevent staining.

• Never use an acidic product on marble. It will permanently etch it. Vinegar, lemon juice and some soft drinks are acidic enough to cause damage. Immediately clean up such materials if they contact marble.

Cooktop

• Sugary spills, if left on a burner area and heated can cause permanent damage to the cooktop surface. Immediately clean up any such spills to prevent permanent damage.

Leather

• Avoid direct sunlight on leather. No color of finish is exempt from fading.

• Blot up spills quickly with a dry or damp (never wet) clean, white cloth, sponge or paper towel. Never allow liquids to remain on leather.
